What is INNOHEP used for?

INNOHEP® (tinzaparin sodium) is indicated for the prevention of postoperative venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery and in patients undergoing general surgery who are at high risk of developing postoperative venous thromboembolism. It is also indicated for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism, and for the prevention of clotting in indwelling intravenous lines for haemodialysis and extracorporeal circulation in patients without high bleeding risk.

How is it administered?

SC injection. Prevention: 3,500-4,500 IU or 50-75 IU/kg daily. Treatment (DVT/PE): 175 IU/kg once daily (max 18,000 IU/day). Dialysis: 4,500 IU bolus into arterial side.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to tinzaparin, heparin, or ingredients (benzyl alcohol, sodium metabisulphite); history of HIT; active major haemorrhage; septic endocarditis; major blood clotting disorders.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use interchangeably with other LMWHs. Risk of spinal/epidural haematoma with neuraxial anaesthesia. Risk of hyperkalaemia. Avoid IM injection. Contains sulphites/benzyl alcohol.
