White-Space Markets: What Canadian Registrations Tell a Distributor in Norway, Sweden or Germany
For Nordic and German distributors: how named-patient exemption routes work, what Canadian registration data tells you about source availability, and how partners work with Nexara Health.
The pattern
A molecule can be marketed in Canada with several generic DINs while a Nordic or German market has one supplier or none. Because Canadian registrations are public and bilingual, and Canadian wholesalers are licensed by Health Canada, Canada is a practical source for named-patient supply into those markets — but always through the local licensed importer, never direct to the pharmacy.
The local rules a distributor already knows
- Norway. Unregistered medicines are supplied under registreringsfritak (exemption from registration) applied for by the prescriber and dispensed through a Norwegian pharmacy or wholesaler [1].
- Sweden. Licensläkemedel — the Swedish Medical Products Agency grants a licence to a pharmacy to supply an unauthorised medicine to a named patient or group [2].
- Germany. Section 73(3) of the Arzneimittelgesetz allows a pharmacy to import an individual quantity of a medicine authorised abroad when no equivalent is available in Germany, on prescription [3].
In all three, the importer of record and the dispensing pharmacy are local; the Canadian wholesaler exports to the licensed importer.
