This Week in Health Canada Drug Status Changes — How to Use the Weekly Digest
Each week Nexara compares the full Health Canada Drug Product Database against the previous week's snapshot and publishes every status and company change. Here is what the digest contains and how buyers use it.
What the digest is
Every week Nexara pulls the complete Health Canada Drug Product Database (around 58,000 DINs), compares it field by field against the previous week, and publishes the differences. The public digest shows:
- Status changes — every DIN that moved between Marketed, Approved, Dormant and Cancelled, with the old and new status.
- Company changes — every DIN whose market authorization holder changed.
- New DINs — products authorized for the first time.
- Removed DINs — records that disappeared from the database.
The digest reports regulator facts only. It does not include Nexara's pricing or stock positions.
Why buyers read it
A product going Dormant is the earliest public signal that it may become hard to find. A Cancelled Post Market status means domestic replenishment has ended, and any remaining stock is finite. A cluster of cancellations at one company often precedes a shortage notice. A company change tells procurement who the new authorization holder is before ordering portals catch up. New DINs — particularly new generics — signal that a molecule is about to have more supply.
About the first edition
The first published week (starting 31 August 2026) is a catch-up edition: it reflects every change recorded since Nexara's previous full comparison, not a single week's activity, which is why the counts are large. Subsequent editions reflect one week each.
