What is OMNITROPE?

What is OMNITROPE used for?

Omnitrope (somatropin for injection) is indicated for: Children: The long-term treatment of children, who have growth failure due to an inadequate secretion of endogenous growth hormone (growth hormone deficiency [GHD]). Other causes of short stature should be excluded. SGA Indication: Omnitrope is indicated for the treatment of growth failure (current height standard deviation score [SDS] < -2) in short children born SGA (birth weight and/or length below -2 SD) and who fail to achieve catch-up growth (height velocity SDS < 0 during the last year) by 2 to 4 years or later. TS Indication: The treatment of short stature associated with Turner syndrome in patients whose epiphyses are not closed. ISS Indication: The long-term treatment of idiopathic short stature (ISS), also called non-growth hormone-deficient short stature, defined by height standard deviation score (SDS) < -2.25, and associated with growth rates unlikely to permit attainment of adult height in the normal range, in pediatric patients for whom diagnostic evaluation excludes other causes associated with short stature that should be observed or treated by other means. Omnitrope treatment for ISS should be prescribed only for those patients whose epiphyses are not closed. Adults: Omnitrope (somatropin [rDNA origin] for injection) is indicated for replacement of endogenous growth hormone in adults with growth hormone deficiency who meet either of the following two criteria: Adult Onset (AO): Patients who have growth hormone deficiency, either alone or associated with multiple hormone deficiencies (hypopituitarism), as a result of pituitary disease, hypothalamic disease, surgery, radiation therapy, or trauma; or Childhood Onset (CO): Patients who were growth hormone deficient during childhood as a result of congenital, genetic, acquired, or idiopathic causes. Patients who were treated with somatropin for growth hormone deficiency in childhood and whose epiphyses are closed should be re-evaluated before continuation of somatropin therapy at the reduced dose level recommended for growth hormone deficient adults. According to current standards, confirmation of the diagnosis of adult growth hormone deficiency in both groups involves an appropriate growth hormone provocative test with two exceptions: (1) patients with multiple other pituitary hormone deficiencies due to organic disease; and (2) patients with congenital/genetic growth hormone deficiency.

Authorized indication as written in the Health Canada product monograph. For healthcare professionals and licensed purchasers; this is not medical advice.

How much does Somatropin cost around the world?

Somatropin is listed on 12 of the national price registers Nexara ingests. Each country publishes on a different basis, so those figures are not comparable with one another — or with a Canadian wholesale price.

What a market publishes matters more than the number it publishes. Australia publishes a ex-manufacturer; Austria publishes a KVP (Kassenverkaufspreis); Bahrain publishes a retail (max). Comparing an ex-factory ceiling against a pharmacy public price tells you nothing about either, and comparing either against a Canadian landed cost tells you less.

241 pack listings across 118 brand entries and 10 price bases, refreshed 08 Sep 2026. Ranges span every Somatropin pack in that market, so a high figure is usually a larger pack rather than the same product.

Figures are held for the Nexara team. Cross-market prices are published on incompatible bases and are not an offer, a landed cost, or a guide to what any buyer can obtain. Nexara publishes which markets list the product and on what basis; the numbers stay internal.

Is there a generic Somatropin in Canada, and who makes it?

Every market authorization holder with a Canadian DIN for this molecule, and how many of their listings Health Canada currently shows as marketed.

7 holders have a Canadian DIN containing Somatropin, across 49 DINs, of which 21 are currently marketed. Marketed count is the number that matters: an approval that is not marketed cannot be bought.

Health Canada’s Drug Product Database does not flag which listing is the originator and which are subsequent-entry products, so Nexara does not label them here. Interchangeability is determined provincially, not federally — confirm for your province before a formulary switch. Nexara can confirm which of these is actually obtainable, and on what lead time, per order.

How is it supplied and stored?

Pack configuration, storage class and the handling constraints that drive cold-chain planning. One DIN can cover more than one pack size, and the pack — not the DIN — is what gets priced, shipped and invoiced.

Before an order line is unambiguous Nexara needs the strength, the pack size and the presentation, because this listing covers more than one of them.

Cold chain. This product is stored refrigerated. Nexara ships it on a validated cold chain with temperature monitoring; a delivery address that cannot receive and store it at 2–8 °C on arrival must be flagged before the order is placed.

What else is OMNITROPE called?

Ordering questions

Who can buy this from Nexara?

Licensed entities only. Nexara holds Health Canada establishment licence DEL 3-002896-A and ships only to a licensed address. Patients and unlicensed buyers are routed to a partner pharmacy.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes, set per product line and per pack multiple rather than on the order total, so you are never asked to buy a part-pack. The minimum for this line is confirmed with your quote.

What is the lead time?

Confirmed per order at quotation, and it depends on current stock position and whether the product is in shortage.

Why is there no price on this page?

Nexara quotes a delivered Canadian price per order, against a verified licence. Foreign list prices are published on incompatible bases and are not a guide to what any buyer can obtain here, so this page shows which markets list the molecule and on what basis, and nothing more.

Can Nexara supply this for a clinical trial?

Yes — comparator and background-therapy supply, including sourcing from other markets where a Canadian pack will not satisfy the protocol. Clinical trial supply.
