What is RAPAMUNE used for?

Rapamune (sirolimus oral solution and tablets) is indicated for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients receiving allogeneic renal transplants: In patients at low to moderate immunological risk, it is recommended that Rapamune be used initially in a regimen with cyclosporine and corticosteroids. In patients at high immunologic risk, it is recommended that Rapamune be used in combination with cyclosporine and corticosteroids for the first year following transplantation.

How is it administered?

Once daily, consistently with or without food. Take 4 hours after cyclosporine. Low/moderate risk: 6mg load, 2mg/day maintenance. High risk: 15mg load, 5mg/day maintenance.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sirolimus, its derivatives, or any ingredient in the formulation.

Warnings and precautions

Increased susceptibility to infection/lymphoma. Not recommended for liver/lung transplants. Risk of angioedema, hyperlipidemia, and skin cancer (limit UV exposure).
