What is CELEBREX used for?

How is it administered?

Osteoarthritis/Ankylosing Spondylitis: 200 mg/day. Rheumatoid Arthritis: 100-200 mg twice daily. Acute Pain: 400 mg initially, then 200 mg daily (max 7 days). Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration.

Contraindications

CABG surgery peri-operative setting; third trimester of pregnancy; breastfeeding; severe heart failure; hypersensitivity to celecoxib or sulfonamides; history of asthma/allergic reactions to ASA/NSAIDs; active GI ulcer/bleeding; cerebrovascular bleeding; IBD; severe liver/renal impairment; hyperkalemia; age < 18.

Warnings and precautions

Increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events (MI, stroke), especially at doses > 200 mg/day. Risk of serious GI toxicity (bleeding, ulceration). Can cause hypertension and fluid retention.
