What is IMODIUM QUICK DISSOLVE used for?

IMODIUM® (loperamide hydrochloride) is indicated: • as an adjunct to rehydration therapy for the symptomatic control of acute non-specific diarrhea • for chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease • for reducing the volume of discharge for ileostomies, colostomies and other intestinal resections. Treatment of diarrhea with IMODIUM® is only symptomatic. Whenever an underlying etiology can be determined, specific treatment should be given when appropriate (or when indicated).

How is it administered?

Adults: Initial 4 mg, then 2 mg after each loose stool. Max 16 mg/day. Children (6-12): Dose based on weight/age. Quick Dissolve/LIQUI-GELS not for children <6 years.

IMODIUM® Quick Dissolve tablets: one (10 tablet), two (20 tablet), or five (50 tablet) blister strips. IMODIUM® Calming Liquid: 240 mL. IMODIUM® LIQUI-GELS® capsules: 6, 12, 24, 36 and 60 capsules.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity; children <2 years; cases where constipation/inhibition of peristalsis must be avoided; acute dysentery; acute ulcerative colitis; bacterial enterocolitis; pseudomembranous colitis.

Warnings and precautions

Treatment is symptomatic only. Discontinue if no improvement in 48h (acute). High doses may lead to serious cardiac events/arrhythmias. May cause tiredness, dizziness, or drowsiness.
