Penicillin G Sodium for Injection, USP is indicated in the treatment of severe infections caused by penicillin G-susceptible microorganisms when rapid and high penicillinemia is required. Therapy should be guided by bacteriological studies, including susceptibility tests and by clinical response. The following infections will usually respond to adequate dosage: Streptococcal infections, Pneumococcal Infections, Staphylococcal infections, Anthrax, Actinomycosis, Clostridial infections, Diphtheria, Erysipeloid endocarditis, Vincent's gingivitis and pharyngitis, Gram negative bacillary infections, Listeria infections, Meningitis and endocarditis, Pasteurella infections, Bacteremia and meningitis, Rat bite fever, Gonorrheal endocarditis and arthritis, Syphilis including congenital syphilis, Meningococcic meningitis. It is also used for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis in patients unable to take oral antibiotics, particularly those with congenital heart disease or rheumatic or other acquired valvular heart disease undergoing dental or upper respiratory tract surgical procedures.
