What is WINRHO SDF used for?

WinRho® SDF is indicated for the prevention of Rh immunization in Rh o (D) negative mothers not previously sensitized to the Rh o (D) factor, and to prevent alloimmunization in Rh o (D) negative female children and female adults in their child-bearing years transfused with Rh o (D) positive RBCs or blood components with Rh o (D) positive RBCs. It is also recommended in the treatment of destructive thrombocytopenia of an immune etiology in situations where platelet counts must be increased to control bleeding, specifically for non-splenectomized Rh o (D) positive children with chronic or acute ITP, adults with chronic ITP, or children and adults with ITP secondary to HIV infection.

How is it administered?

ITP: 250 IU/kg (50 μg/kg) IV; if Hb <10 g/dL, reduce to 125-200 IU/kg. Pregnancy: 1500 IU (300 μg) at 28 weeks and within 72 hours of delivery. Administer IV for ITP; IV or IM for prophylaxis.

Contraindications

Rh(D) positive patients (for prophylaxis); Rh(D) negative or splenectomized patients (for ITP); IgA deficiency; history of anaphylaxis to human immune globulins; hypersensitivity to any ingredient.

Warnings and precautions

Serious risk of intravascular hemolysis (IVH) and complications (anemia, renal failure, DIC) in ITP treatment. Monitor ITP patients for 8 hours post-infusion. Risk of viral transmission.
