What is METRONIDAZOLE INJECTION USP used for?
METRONIDAZOLE INJECTION USP (metronidazole) is indicated for the treatment of serious anaerobic intra-abdominal infections due to susceptible anaerobic bacteria (such as Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium, Fusobacterium, Peptococcus, and Peptostreptococcus species) and for the treatment of a small number of cases of brain and lung infections caused by anaerobic bacteria. It is also indicated for the prevention of post-operative infections in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery. Use should be reserved for infections proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria to reduce drug-resistant bacteria.
